Anne's in Love: With Baltimore Part I

Out the window of the Amtrak Northeast Corridor train from NYC to Baltimore 5/5/07
The train is a wonderful way to travel. There's no bagging up your liquids and having to get to the station 2 hours early. You get to see the oldest parts of the cities and towns you're passing by and through. Unlike the car or the bus, where you're on a monotonous highway with the occasional Home Depot or Hampton Inn to stimulate the retinas. For me, the train means door to door service. I walked into the Penn Station NYC and exited at Penn Station Baltimore. Excellent.

trains....i miss them. my dad worked for the the Canadian National Railway, for like, 50 years....he worked, and we lived, in places like Montreal and Toronto, and we spent a lot of our childhood years on trains.
one trip took a week, from Montreal to Vancouver....it was awesome. we used to run down the aisles of all the train cars; so many people, all gathered together in one small space.....
but since he retired in '85, not so many train rides....i miss them...it may sound weird, but i miss the smell, it brings back so many memories.
i remember going to see deep purple in toronto in '85, pulling into Union Station in toronto, underground, and stepping out onto the platform, and the smell of fuel, and.....whatever else was in the air....it was almost overwhelming....sigh.....
