It Takes a Hot Dog

Last week some boys from the office and I went out to lunch for what I like to call a Fun Time Field Trip. It began with the idea of visiting Apexart, a gallery on Church Street which featured a new exhibit of crime photos from the early 1900's. Since it was a little hike from work, we figured lunch on the run was a good way to save on time, and what's a better lunch on the run than a Grey's Papaya/Papaya King/Mike's Papaya venue where we could eat standing? We were all on board for hot dogs.

However, when we approached the street where we all believed the hot dog venue to be, in it's stead was a corner space undergoing a gutting which was filled with construction workers. It had signs on the outside which advertised gourmet hot dogs coming soon. We all screamed in terror, "OH NO! Gentrification! It's gone? Now what! Boooooo! What, this neighborhood is too good for an old timey 2 dogs for a dollar deal? WTF!" So we kept walking, aimlessly, and as we reached the next block, there it was in the horizon, on the next corner, MIKE'S HOT DOGS! Elation overwhelmed us. "YAY! WOW! We were off by one block! OMG! The hot dogs will taste so much sweeter now!" And they did. Roller coaster emotions have a way of doing that. So with that, please enjoy our Fun Time Field Trip Adventure in Hot Dogs from May 31, 2007.

Nothin' like a hot dog* sale, folks.

*When my sis's boyfriend was a little kid, he used to call 'em Gog gogs. Gog gogs all around!
