I suppose it happens to almost everyone somewhere down the line. Unless you're married to a clown who wears a wig made of out of electric eels which shock you when you lose eye contact.
I can't remember the poet but there is a line I remember about leading lives of quiet desparation. That seems to fit here. I bet they both ordered the fish and chips with mushy peas.

Upon closer inspection, that guy's cigarette in hanging on his bottom lip. Much like Dan Aykroyd's in Ghostbusters when he first saw Slimer.
Wow that's a bit of a stretch.
