You Need Mucho Bread for a Little Beer at Baseball

Yanks v. Boston, Saturday July 5, 2008
Yankee Stadium. Sox lost. The difference in chants makes me laugh. In Boston, they chant YankeesSuck! YankeeSuck! YankeesSuck! (even if they played and beat another team) and in New York they chant, BostonSucks! BostonSucks! BostonSucks!
Team allegiance is all so tribal and weird and interesting.

I was at a game in Fenway Park back in 2000. The Yankees had won the past three out of the last four World Series and were about to win another. I was wearing my Yankees hat. Some kid got in my face and started chanting "Yankees suck!" right at me. His friends, realizing the historic run the Yankees were on and the fact that Boston hadn't won a WS since 1918, pulled him away and said "No dude...they really don't".

yes, totally. that's what i said to a guy here in nyc who yelled BOSTON SUCKS just a few weeks before the world series of 2004.

at saturday's game, i wore a navy polo and no boston markings or hat whatsoever. it was more of a relief to cheer/not cheer incognito.
