Steppin' Out
I'm on Ticketmaster's mailing list. I got an email yesterday that said in the subject line: Don't miss Joe Jackson. It reminded me of a story.
A few years ago, I worked with some right-out-of-college kids. The younger of the two asked the older, "Do you have any Joe Jackson on that iPod of yours?" and the older guy was like, "No, sorry, I don't." and the younger said, "Why not?" and the older replied, "Because I'm just not that into Joe Jackson, I guess."
So then the younger talked about how he never gets any girls, but over the weekend he managed to get a girl to come home with him. As they were cuddling on the sofa she asked him, "Do you have any Joe Jackson?" and he didn't. He was sorry that he didn't, because the girl was disappointed and things just generally didn't work out. "Maybe if I had some Joe Jackson CDs on hand, things would have worked out. Apparently he's really popular right now and all the chicks dig him."
"Really," I think. Oh sure. There's hotter than making out to
Me babe - steppin out
Into the night
Into the light
You babe - steppin out
Into the night
Into the light
We -
Are young but getting old before our time
We’ll leave the t.v. and the radio behind
Don’t you wonder what we’ll find
Steppin out tonight
Finally, I interrupted, "You're talking about Jack Johnson, jackass." And then he goes, "Oh. Who's Joe Jackson?"
Does anyone really know Joe?
Me babe...steppin' out...
You can thank me for getting this annoying song in your head.
