I Saw a Play and It Wasn't Gay

But it was sad. Wistful, rather, with bits of humor throughout. It's called BFF (Best Friends Forever, for those of you over 40, or those of you without best friends, or whatever) and was at the DR2 theater on 103 East 15th Street off of Union Square. It's the story of two girls who are best friends forever (or so they think) and the stuff that happens to them as they grow into adulthood. It stars Sasha Eden, Laura Heisler, and Jeremy Webb (as one of the girl's love interests). I would have enjoyed it more had I not had to pee the entire time--it was an hour and 45 minutes with no intermission: not for those with weak bladders, I'm afraid. Other than that: Very well-written screenplay, very well-acted, nice theater. Half assed review? Perhaps. Apparently WET, the theater company that produced the play, is an outfit "dedicated to producing media that challenges female stereotypes and advocates for equality." Thumbs up.

On my way home from the show, I thought to myself three things:

  1. Get in touch with my childhood BFF
  2. Why do I always feel that the Koreans in the deli are just making up prices (even though they refer to the price chart thingie on the register)?
  3. When did 9-5 become 9-6?

How did you manage to see a play that I haven't seen yet?

9-5 became 9-6 around the time it no longer became acceptable to take the lunch break you're legally allowed.

I'm with you on this 9-6 crap. I remember the good old days of 9-5, then a company I was working for informed us we would be switching to 9-5:30, now my current company operates 9-6. That's a long friggin' day -- I lose interest at 5:00, I'm on autopilot the rest of the day. How did this become acceptable? Why weren't us worker bees allowed to vote on the proposal? The friggin' song is '9 to 5', the movie was '9 to 5' (the porno version was '8 to 4', but still an 8 hour day)!

9-6 doesn't work as well in song.
