That kids growing up in these clothes were virtually untouched by pedophiles. Peophile-proof outfits, if you will. The colors were foul, plus there's the unwieldy large belt to fumble with.

I don't think it was bad fashion, just very colorful.
Most of the stuff nowadays is more neutral but the same type of stuff, really.
