Always an Ugly Bridesmaid Dress, Never Not an Ugly One

Dilemma:

Let's say a tall and skinny bride-to-be who lives way across the country just asked you to be a bridesmaid in her wedding because another bridesmaid backed out for financial reasons and also because "I look like shit in the dress."

Then the fellow bridesmaids and bride gang up on her by saying, "This day isn't about you, you're not supposed to look great, stop being so selfish, it's all about the bride" and whatnot.

Let's also say, giving the bridesmaid backer outer the benefit of the doubter, that the bridesmaid dresses were chosen by the tall and skinny bride-to-be without much thought into the cornucopia of bridesmaid shapes and sizes.

Yet when you go to to David's Bridal to try on the dress, you can't fit your fat ass into it either, and not because it's fat but because the dress is really unflattering, so much so that you burst into tears in the dressing room and the lady at the store feels bad for you too. Then in her next breath she tells you that each alteration is going to cost $20, and you'll need at least 5. Altered or not, you still wouldn't be caught alive in it. (worse than being caught dead in it)

What do you do?

**incidentally, while researching images of fine frocks for this post, I stumbled upon Etiquette Hell. Terrible dresses abound and compete for the incinerator.**

I think it depends on the friend. If it was a really close friend, I would do it. If just a friend, I wouldn't feel bad about declining.
Declining in a nice way, of course.
I hope it works out.

You pull a Pretty in Pink moment and you deconstruct the dress and combine it with your old prom dress and make a really hideous creation and you wear it proudly to the wedding, not caring what anyone thinks. Then that cat Andrew McCarthy will come in with his pretty blue eyes and sweep you into a passionate embrace.

Well that is my idea anyway....

here's the thing. in this situation, the dress was 100 buck. that is so cheap for a dress. did the bride to be pick it to help the sisters out? or because she didn't think about what this dress would look like? it's possible she was trying to be considerate. no one is going to wear this dress again, be it 100 or 300 buck...

i know the answer to this dilemma but i am not going to spil it yet.

Change your name, identity. Never speak to those people again.

Sleep with the groom.

Problem solved.

Or sleep with the bride and cause her to go into a total break down as she questions her sexual identity. Then for sure you won't be stuck in the dress.

You tell the idiot bride that Davis' Bridal makes make-and-match separates in the same color so that everyone can pick something they love and that fits them beautifully. Duh!

Duh to the bride, not you. Duh.

That was supposed to say David's. I don't know what Davis' Bridal is.

No, no, no... sleep with the seamstress at David's and get her to turn it into an awesome dress. Then use the new sexy dress to seduce the groom.

i have a rule: i am no longer a bridesmaid. ever

post script:
the bride let the second choice bridesmaid choose another dress from "davis's bridal" in the same shade but different style.
