Have I Told You Lately How Much I Love Abraham Lincoln?

Well I do. I just finished reading another biography on him last night and actually got seriously sad at the end when he dies, and I knew it was coming. There were only three pages left, of course I knew it was coming!

I love him for so many reasons that I won't get into now because I need to get some lunch, but to say that he was a remarkable individual is a huge understatement. The dude simply can't be described in one word and he's misunderstood. I got pissed all over again at stupid John Wilkes Booth for taking him out! Sigh. Why didn't he take out somebody average?

The more I learn about Abraham the more I love him, and he'll always hold a special place in my heart because for as much as we differ (he was wicked tall, I'm wicked short, etc.) we have a lot in common. And with that, I will share my favorite Abraham Lincoln quote for you:

"Laughter is the joyous universal evergreen of life....Were it not for my little jokes, I could not bear the burdens of this office...With the fearful strain that is on me night and day, if I did not laugh I should die." —Abraham Lincoln

Say it again, Mr. Lincoln! Nothing to me is sweeter than the sound of laughter. A guy could have a head like a stomped possum, but if he makes me laugh*, I'm smitten.

*He's got to think I'm funny too. Oh, and not have terrible breath.

the book i read: The Life of Abraham Lincoln by Stefan Lorant. could be out of print.

however, i've heard that "With Malice Towards None" by Stephen Oates is supposedly an excellent biography which i haven't read yet...

I'm glad he got to be prez when he did, because I'm gonna guess he wasn't all that telegenic.
